Community Support

At Zia Taqueria, we make it our mission to give back to the community that has supported us for the past 20+ years. We are proud to have built a reputation of generosity in Durango, and we promise to always maintain that spirit.

Each year, Zia contributes approximately $50,000 in support to local non-profits and families in need. While our giving budget is substantial, the needs in our community are vast, and we sometimes receive dozens of requests each week. To ensure our support has the greatest impact, we ask that you carefully review our guidelines before submitting a request.

Community Support Guidelines

We focus our giving in areas that align with Zia’s mission and values:

Secular youth program
Cycling
Health & wellness
Outdoor recreation
Local ecosystem/environmental stewardship

Although we recognize many other important causes, narrowing our focus allows us to maximize our impact.

Requests We Do Not Support

To keep our resources directed toward the most urgent community needs, we are generally unable to approve the following requests:

Religious Organizations
We respect the important role that faith-based groups play in our community, and we know many of our team members and customers support them personally. However, Zia does not make donations to organizations with religious affiliations. We leave those choices to the individual.
Volunteer “Thank You” Gifts
Our community thrives because of countless volunteers who give their time and energy. While we deeply value their contributions, we believe donations should go first to those in direct need – not as payback for volunteer service.
Employee Incentives
We are grateful for the work of teachers, nurses, doctors, emergency service providers, and so many others in our community. At the same time, we believe it is the responsibility of employers to provide compensation packages and perks to their staff. Zia does not donate food or gift cards for employee incentives.
Individuals with the Means to Pay
We know Durango is full of exciting programs, clubs, and celebrations. While we love to support youth sports, art clubs, and other community activities, our priority is ensuring that no one goes without because of financial barriers. We are happy to provide meals for those who truly cannot pay, but we rely on families who can afford it to cover their own way – so donations can be reserved for those in need.
